"The book "Contágios" was launched this April, tales and chronicles written during the pandemic. 65 authors from four Portuguese-speaking countries and their respective diasporas participate in the work, which is the result of the online project "Mapas do Confinamento", born a year ago, by the hands of Gabriela Ruivo and Nuno Gomes Garcia."

Visgarolho launches a collection of short stories and chronicles about the pandemic

The publisher from Aveiro Visgarolho  prepares to release a new book. It is a collection of short stories and chronicles that have the pandemic as a common theme and will be available in bookstores on April 8.

The Beijing University of Foreign Studies wants to combat the lack of knowledge between Chinese and Portuguese culture. That's why they joined the  Maps of Confinement  – which joins together Portuguese-speaking artists.

The project already has the contribution of around 110 authors and artists from all Portuguese-speaking countries and the diasporas. Maps of Confinement is also a  magazine  (for now only in digital format) and, possibly, in the near future, one or more books.

The expansion of the project, made possible by the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, means "getting to know better" the participants and their work in interviews, which will be broadcast on social networks.

The page aims to “create a platform of union between several Portuguese-speaking artists, or linked to the Portuguese language”, mobilizing writers, poets, illustrators, visual artists, photographers or actors, and “overcoming the obstacles caused by the pandemic to artistic creation”.

The project also intends to be an “act of resistance” by exposing the “already catastrophic reality” of lack of support for culture, which the respective professionals have felt in recent months.

The page was launched this month, coinciding with the first anniversary of the covid-19 pandemic, officially declared by the World Health Organization on March 11, 2020.

The network of collaborators extends to the United Kingdom, France and Netherlands, where several of the translators are based, as the site will also have  English and French versions.
